International Recognition for Norway Spacehub — From Grand Forks to Andøya

In a recent episode of Dawn of Autonomy, John Ryan, Director of Operations and Innovation at The HIVE in Grand Forks, North Dakota, highlighted the growing global impact of innovation hubs in the aerospace, autonomy, and dual-use technology sectors. Ryan, who was interviewed by host Dawn Zoldi, spoke about his experiences visiting Andøya and Norway Spacehub, where he connected with the aerospace community. John was here as part of the group from Grand Sky.

The visit to Norway Spacehub came as part of an expanding partnership between The HIVE, a thriving regional accelerator that has evolved into a global launchpad for UAS, autonomy, and dual-use innovation and organisations in Northern Europe. Ryan saw firsthand how the Norwegian team has transformed an underutilised facility into an operational innovation centre supporting space, autonomy, and aerospace projects in the far north. Ryan emphasized the importance of physical collaboration spaces that bring together founders, industry partners, investors, and public stakeholders. Norway Spacehub, in his view, exemplifies how place-based hubs can accelerate connections, facilitate knowledge exchange, and create new opportunities for cross-border cooperation. The shared strengths between the North Dakota and Norway ecosystems — from harsh-weather testing and autonomous systems to defense applications and advanced aerospace technologies — make this an exciting corridor for joint innovation.
